Just after 3 am Aldine Fire Department was dispatched to a reported apartment fire on Aldine Westfield Road between FM 1960 and W.W. Thorne Drive. The first two Aldine trucks arrived within minutes to the sight of flames erupting through the roof of the Westfield Ridge Apartments. Aldine requested additional assistance from Northwest, Northeast, Klein, Ponderosa, Spring and Westfield Fire Departments. The first truck in attempted to use the deck gun to knock the flames down however the fire hydrant would only produce a trickle. As other trucks came in lines were laid down Aldine Westfield, closing the southbound lanes.
Firefighters attacked the flames from several apartments in the complex and were able to contain the flames to just four units. Another four units received smoke and water damage. Not just were all the fire hydrants in the complex out, Centerpoint Entergy, who was attempting to cut power to the affected units encountered a large ant mound inside the transformer box.
The resident of the apartment where the fire started said something woke him up and that was when he spotted flames on his upstairs balcony. He immediately called 911.
There were no injuries.
