FIRE MARSHAL’S INVESTIGATION QUICKLY NETS A JUVENILE SUSPECT IN SPLENDORA ARSON

Just before 1 AM this morning, Splendora and New Caney Firefighters responded to a house fire on Oak Lawn Drive. When they arrived they found smoke throughout the home and quickly brought the fire under control. Two residents of the home were transported by Montgomery County Hospital District with non-life threatening burn injuries.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies and Splendora Police Officers secured the scene and were soon joined by an Investigator from the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office. During the course of the scene investigation, the Deputy Fire Marshal determined that the fire had been intentionally set using gasoline and was able to identify the person who set the fire. The teen age suspect is a juvenile and charges are pending at this time. Investigators have determined that the juvenile acted alone in setting the fire.

At this time the investigation is ongoing, and as the suspect is a juvenile, their identity cannot be released. Investigators are still looking into the motive behind this arson fire, and cannot comment further at this time.

As the case will be in the hands of the Montgomery County Juvenile Prosecutor, future information requests should be directed to juvenile authorities.
