We regret to advise of you the Line of Duty Death of a firefighter from Eastland VFD who was trapped in a burnover where a total of 8 firefighters were trapped. There is no update on the conditions of the other firefighters involved.
The fire is 55 miles from Abilene and 115 from Fort Worth, TX. More information will be posted on our homepage as it becomes available . Our sincere condolences to all involved.
The Montgomery County Fire Task Force arrived at Merkel at 3:50 a.m. and were advised to get some rest. They will be reporting to the command post at 8a.m. for assignments. We will keep it updated through the day. As of this moment almost over 1/2 million acres are on fire in Texas and 50 homes have been lost.
Last night a 64 acre fire in San Angelo grew to over 42,000 acres.
