Many wondered what the meaning of a post early Friday morning meant when we asked for anyone who had purchased an iPad or similar device and discovered the box to contain floor tile.
Late Wednesday night Oak Ridge Police received a call for suspicious activity around the Chevron station on Interstate 45 near Woodson. They were told a male in a GMC Youkon were attempting to sell iPads and other such devices to store clerks and customers.
As Oak Ridge approached the vehicle it entered the feeder and drove north passing Woodlands Parkway.With Oak Ridge Police following behind the driver threw a piece of plastic out the window.
Oak Ridge Police initiated a traffic stop and as the officer walked up to the vehicle was able to detect an odor of marijuana. Searching the vehicle the officer found marijuana residue in the ashtray. In the cargo area of the truck the officer located 58 boxes labeled iPads, Galaxy Notebooks and MacBook Pros. As the officer inspected the boxes he was able to find one laptop. However the remaining boxes contained floor tile marked as if they were laptops.
Mario Antonio Pio Ramey, 44 and Jerevlyn Eveon Wade, 20, both of Dallas were arrested and placed in the Montgomery County Jail. They are charged with three counts of criminal simulation. A class A misdemeanor.
A person commits this offense if he authenticates or certifies an object so made or altered as genuine or as different from what it is.
Anyone who actually purchased one of these devices believing it to be something different is asked to contact the Oak Ridge Police Department or the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
