The initial investigation and witness statements indicated the street sweeper was sweeping, traveling westbound on the recently constructed concrete road. The truck was also traveling westbound in the construction area. The truck was allegedly traveling at an unreasonable and unsafe rate of speed inside the construction zone. The sweeper, conducting its normal duties, made a u-turn in the construction zone and the truck struck the sweeper. The impact caused the sweeper to overturn and eject the sweeper operator onto the concrete.

The sweeper operator was identified as Isaac Sheridan. Sheridan was transported by air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital Houston in critical condition.

The truck was occupied by the driver and four passengers, none of which required immediate medical treatment. The driver of the truck was identified as Fernando Rodriguez, 06-19-79.

Rodriguez was arrested at the scene for one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, First Degree Felony, and was transported to the Montgomery County Jail. Bond for Rodriguez was set at $100,000.
