Just after 11 am Friday morning, New Waverly Firefighters and Walker County EMS crews were dispatched to reports of a serious accident on FM 2296 near the Phelps Community. New Waverly Engine 75 responded from their station on Hwy 75 at FM 2296 and were on scene in only a couple minutes, reporting two vehicles had collided and one person was still trapped in his car.
The Firefighter/EMTs on E-75 began to assess the victim’s injuries and quickly determined than one victim was rapidly losing blood due to a damaged artery. They deployed their tourniquets to stop the bleeding, while at the same time working to free the victim as quickly as possible. Shortly after, they were joined by additional Firefighter/Paramedics and 2 EMS units and a Supervisor from Walker County EMS.
After the victim was freed, he was moved to a waiting ambulance, stabilized and transported to Conroe Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, although less severely injured, was transported as well by Walker County EMS.
Troopers with the Department of Public Safety are conducting the investigation into the cause of the accident at this time.
