In response to the outpouring of concern for the horses on John Rice Drive in the Iola Community. The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the public that we have diligently investigated this situation.
These horses are being monitored and we are concerned about their welfare. At this time, we will not be seizing the horses due to extenuating circumstances that the public is not aware of. This office feels that assisting and informing the public is just as important as enforcing the laws.
In the event that the horses conditions do not improve, they will then be evaluated by a judge and a seizure warrant may be issued based on the judge’s decision.
This office would like to extend its thanks to the public for their reports of concern and participation in the partnership with law enforcement.
