GRASS FIRE KEEP MONTGOMERY COUNTY FIREFIGHTERS BUSY SATURDAY

Saturday almost all of Montgomery County Fire Departments were responding to grass and woods fires.

A fire which started in the ditch on Sleepy Hollow damaged two homes and burned several acres. The homeowner spotted the fire and by the time he went to get a rake it had spread almost 100 feet.  One home suffered minor damage while a second had fire burn through one wall.

A fire in Bennette Woods estates on Lyric Lane kept Caney Creek firefighters busy. A bbq pit was blamed for that blaze which was limited to approximately one acre. It did partially damage a shed. A large oak tree in the middle of the property which was dead and hollow caught fire on the inside. Acting like a chimney it was spitting hot embers out of the upper area of the tree almost thirty feet in the air. Caney Creek requested Needham Roads Ladder truck in an attempt to stop it but due to the location of the tree they were unable to make access.
