HCSO INVESTIGATORS IDENTIFY SUSPECT IN 1990 MURDER CASE

sloan, andre (HOUSTON, TX) – Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Cold Case Squad filed capital murder charges today against a man for his involvement in the 1990 killing of a north Harris County resident.

The suspect, 48-year-old Andre Sloan, was recently identified using DNA. Sloan is currently serving a life sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for a 1992 triple homicide in the Houston area.

On Aug. 30, 1990, several suspects broke into a home in the 9200 block of Lori Lane while the occupants were sleeping. Tamara Potes was inside the residence. She was sexually assaulted by the suspects and then shot in the back of the head. She survived. Her husband, Wistong Potes, was also shot and died.

Mrs. Potes was killed a year later in a drive-by shooting.
In 2009, items of evidence that had been collected at the scene in 1990 were submitted to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science (HCIFS) for DNA processing. Recently, a DNA profile was found to be a match to that of Andre Sloan.

HCSO investigators continue to try to identify the other suspects involved. If you have any information about this case, please contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
