High Water Rescue

From the Conroe Police Department:

On 5-27-16, Conroe Police Dispatch received an emergency call from a concerned citizen stating that a vehicle was trapped in the high water at the 100 block of S. Frazier. Upon officers’arrival, they observed a light colored Chrysler 300 submerged in the flooded waters as water continued to rise. Officer S. Kunnemann, immediately and quickly shed his rain and police gear, wading into the water to rescue the driver. Officers J. Moore and D. Markham also entered the water upon their arrival. The offficers were unable to enter the vehicle, so Officer Kunnemann began striking the window numerous times, first warning the victim to cover her face to protect her from shattered glass. After shattering the glass the citizen was unable to escape from the vehicle, but officers were able to pull her from the vehicle. Officers worked quickly as the car, fully submerged in water, floated in the water, making the rescue more difficult. Officers rescued the woman who was in her late 40’s and handed her to additional waiting officers. EMS transported the woman to Conroe Regional Medical Center.

The flooded roadway was barricaded to keep citizen from entering the flooded waters, but the victim drove around the barricaded. The officers were not injured and returned to service.
