The storm that came through the Grangerland area just before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday started out earlier in the morning near Matagorda Island. Several pleasure craft were in distress there requiring Coast Guard assistance.
A tornado spawned near Palacious and stayed with the storm until it came out of the clouds and damaged an apartment building in Baytown.
In Houston, as it passed through it put a tree through a home in the Houston Heights and knocked construction barrels off the 610 Loop overpass onto the vehicle on Shepard and Durham below.
In Grangerland the weather station clocked an 81 MPH gust at 11:29 a.m. with a sustained wind of 58 MPH.
A Conroe man driving down Old Houston Road was involved in an accident when a tree came crashing down across the road in front of him. He struck it causing injuries to himself and front-end damage to the car.
MCHD transported him to St. Lukes Hospital in stable condition.
Crews from New Caney and Caney Creek Fire Department assisted Commissioner Reinhart’s crews in removing the tree.
