Late this afternoon Caney Creek Fire Department responded to a double wide mobile home fire in the Lone Star Ranch Subdivision. When they arrived at 16433 Hill Country Drive there was heavy smoke coming from the roof and fire from the rear of the home. Firefighters immediately entered the home in an attempt to extinguish it.
As firefighters were working in the near zero visibility conditions the entire ceiling area collapsed on a firefighter. He was uninjured and continued fighting the fire.
Needham Road Fire and River Plantation Fire Departments were also called in to assist.
The home owner was not home at the time of the fire but was alerted by neighbors and returned home to find it nearly destroyed. Two dogs were reported to have been on the property and as firefighters searched inside the home again they came running from the back of the yard as soon as they saw the owner.
The fire appeared to have been electrical in nature and started in the rear of the home.
The Montgomery County Fire Marshal is investigating and will make the final determination.
