Just before 3 pm Friday, Splendora Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire on Morgan Drive with a burn patient. When they arrived they found a wood frame house totally involved and the homeowner burned on his face, arms and head as he tried to hold the flames back on his almost 50-year-old home.

William “Wild Bill” Elliott, 81, was transported to Hermann Hospital in Houston in critical condition.

Firefighters immediately called for additional help from Porter, New Caney , Needham and Caney Creek Fire Departments. The home is a total loss. According to family members Elliott may have been in the house cooking when the fire erupted. His son was outside near their shop when he heard what he thought was a tree falling on the house. That’s when he discovered the fire. Fire was nothing new to Bill Elliott as he was a former longtime member of the Splendora Fire Department.

It took crews almost an hour to extinguish the blaze.

The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
