Just after 8 pm Wednesday Liberty County EMS was dispatched to Calhouns Grocery on SH 321 on the north city limits of Dayton. A family was to meet the unit there with an injured child. EMS and Dayton Police arrived on the scene as crews immediately started providing medical attention to the critical 3-year-old boy, Dayton Police determined the child had been kicked in the right upper chest by a horse at their home in the 1100 block of County Road 6479 in the Woodland Hills Subdivision. Life Flight was dispatched to the scene and transported the child to Memorial Hermann Houston in critical condition. When the child arrived at Herman Medics worked for close to an hour to save the small child. He was pronounced dead.
Since the incident happened in Liberty County outside the Dayton City Limits, the scene was turned over to Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. As one unit responded to the home to hold any scene they may have, other units went to Hermann Hospital to interview the family. At this time there is no additional information as officials are still at Hermann Hospital interviewing the family.
