HPD NOW ALLOWS CITIZENS TO SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING IN ALMOST REAL TIME

In response to updated technology and new mapping tools, the Houston Police Department has two new crime mapping functions now available on the HPD website.

“We wanted to be transparent and get the information out there as soon as possible,” stated HPD Captain Wyatt Martin.  “Through the benefit of two third-party vendors that have agreed to provide this service to the city and the citizens of Houston, free of charge, we are now able to publish crime data every 30 minutes in a format that is user-friendly and with new tools that allow Houstonians to be aware of what crime is happening in their neighborhoods.”

The same UCR reports and statistics will still be found on the website, but the previous map has been replaced with a new, embedded map provided by CrimeReports.com.  The map allows citizens to search for crimes in their area in a more user-friendly fashion.  It will also allow citizens to receive periodic emailed crime alerts as often as they choose and to submit anonymous crime tips directly to Crime Stoppers via the website.

A second map, through RaidsOnline, is available through a link on the HPD website.  The website has multiple graphing and analytical tools provided by BAIR Analytics.   This will allow users the ability to view density maps, and view and graph multiple data points.
