HPD OFFICER SHOOTS ROBBER

About 9pm  Friday night, a 20-year police veteran with HPD was working an extra job at the Valero in the 7200 block of Lawndale. The store had been the target of several robberies in the past. As the officer sat in his vehicle in the corner of the parking lot he observed two males walk along side the store and put on stocking masks. On male entered the store as the other stood at the door as a lookout, Moments later the officer observed through the glass the male inside the store with a pistol in hand robbing the clerk. The officer exited his vehicle, and as he approached the store the male lookout alerted his counterpart who had been robbing the clerk. approached the front door and raised his weapon at the officer. The officer who identified himself as an officer fired several shots, striking the suspect several times. The male lookout ran inside and to the rear of the store and was quickly captured by the officer. HFD responded to the scene and transported the male to Ben Taub in very critical condition. The lookout was taken into custody. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office also sent a representative to assist in the investigation.
