On Tuesday, Huntsville ISD had a total of 7 buses and 1 truck running routes throughout the day transporting different band groups totaling 185 Huntsville High School Band members to UIL contest at Caney Creek High School.
The first incident reported was a "fender bender" accident at approximately 3:30 pm that involved one Huntsville ISD bus rear-ending a small pickup truck stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of FM 3083 and FM 2090 in Conroe.
The second incident on Tuesday occurred at approximately 4:45 pm at SH 105 and FM 3083 in Conroe at the railroad crossing. This incident involved a separate Huntsville ISD bus and no other vehicle. When the railroad stop arm came down and hit the hood of the bus causing only minor paint damage. The bus driver had approached the crossing and stopped the bus to look and listen for signs of an oncoming train. Apparently, the bus stopped too far past the caution white line placing it a too close to the tracks. Before the driver could correct the situation, the crossing arm came down and hit the hood of the bus between the windshield and the front mounted mirrors. The driver made the decision to stay put rather than to go on over the tracks, or back up. The bus was not in the path of the train according to Huntsville ISD officials.
