DPS is on the scene of a plane crash in Walker County off FM 980. Just after 10am witnesses said the plane came low over a home and pasture with only one engine. The gear was down when the plane clipped some trees. A fire immediately erupted setting the grass on fire. The plane continued to the edge of a pond where it flipped upside down andd continued to burn. Huntsville firefighters arrived on the scene but had a difficult time extinguishing the aircraft as it was in the pond. For almost 2 hours what remained of the aircraft continued to burn above the water line. DPS is on the scene waiting for NTSB officials to arrive. Divers confirm there is one person in the Cessna aircraft which is believed to have left out of Conroe. Just the other side of the tree line from the crash site is a grass landing strip. Officials speculate the pilot tried for the strip. The aircraft possibly had reported oil problems and an engine fire before the crash.
