Just after 10 pm, Friday 2 groups of people in two different vehicles were en route from Dallas to a wedding in Houston. Just south of FM 1488 one of the vehicles, a blue Nissan struck a tire lying in the southbound lanes. A GMC Yukon following behind then struck it and some of the debris from the Nissan. Just south of SH 242 the Nissan which had damage to the front underside was able to pull to the left shoulder to survey the damage. The SUV pulled in behind them. Both vehicles had their emergency flashers on as they were out looking at the damage. The driver of the Suv realized that they were still partially in the HOV moving lane of traffic and got into the SUV to pull it closer to the wall on the left shoulder. That is when a Harley Davidson motorcycle slammed into the rear of the SUV. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected as the motorcycle burst into flames. A Montgomery County Deputy who was southbound stopped and immediately started CPR on the motorcycle driver. MCHD and Needham Fire responded to the scene and continued CPR. They were unable to save the motorcyclist. The Montgomery County District Attorneys Office Vehicular Crimes Unit responded to the scene to assist DPS in the fatal investigation. It was determined no charges would be filed. There were no other injuries. Montgomery County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Trey Spikes responded to the scene and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the male victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. Three southbound lanes of the freeway were reopened at 2 am.
