IN CUSTODY DEATH

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office was notified at approximately 11:25am this morning that inmate Beverly Ann Mooring, age 57 was found to be in medical distress and non-responsive in the “detox” cell of the county jail. Jail personnel immediately began CPR on Mooring who was soon transferred, by ambulance, to the Liberty/Dayton Regional Hospital. Shortly thereafter, Beverly Mooring was pronounced deceased and an autopsy was ordered by Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace, Judge Stephen Hebert.

According to jail records, Beverly Mooring was arrested for public intoxication by the City of Liberty Police Department at approximately 4:40pm yesterday, Tuesday, April 14th and placed in the county jail for that offense.

The case is being investigated jointly by the Texas Rangers and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s lead Investigator, Sgt. Josh Cummins stated that he has contacted the next of kin and that autopsy results  will be forthcoming within a few days.
