INMATE WITH MEDICAL ISSUES DIES IN GRIMES COUNTY JAIL

On December 26, 2016, an in-custody death occurred at the Grimes County Jail. The deceased is identified as Tommie Edward Taylor, 59, of Houston, Texas. Mr. Taylor had been incarcerated since Sept. 30, 2016, facing an alleged charge of Forgery for which he had been indicted by a-grand jury. Mr. Taylor had reported previous illness and jail staff was preparing to transport him to a doctor when he became unresponsive. An ambulance was then dispatched to the jail and arrived within about five minutes of being dispatched. Jail staff performed CPR while the ambulance was enroute. The ambulance crew was unable resuscitate Mr. Taylor upon arrival. He was subsequently pronounced deceased by Judge Gene Stapleton at I 1 :06 AM. Mr. Taylor was alone in his cell at the time of his death due to health concerns. Texas Rangers and the Grimes County Sherift’s Office are currently conducting a full investigation of Mr. Taylor’s death. An autopsy has been ordered and will be performed tomorrow.
