Saturday afternoon several customers decided to have tires replaced on their vehicles at Discount Tires on I-45 just north of Richey Road. One car owner left her new BMW to get tires as she went to the mall after calling Uber. Another woman sat in the waiting room waiting on the tiresfor her Mercedes and another young man had just parked his vehicle and walked away when an intoxicated driver traveling north on the I-45 feeder from Richey Road lost control of his pickup. The truck crossed the curb and struck a post next to the driveway of Discount Tires which was used for a security gate. The post acted as a ramp as the truck went airborne. It first hit a Nissan, ripping it open, it then landed on top of it, the BMW and the Mercedes. The driver of the Nissan who had just exited his vehicle ran back and helped the driver out of the truck. He said the driver seemed impaired. After Harris County Precinct 4 Deputy Constables arrived on the scene they attempted a field sobriety test on the driver. He was then arrested. There were no injuries. However, the BMW owner, who had dropped her car off for tires opted to return the tires to Discount since they had not been used yet and would not add to the value of her totaled out vehicle.
