At 12:15 am Saturday, Jose Flores, 45, of 4403 Shalom Creek in Spring was driving a 2014 yellow Chevy Corvette on the northbound service road for Interstate Highway 45 (North Freeway). Genise Sutton was driving a Kia Soul northbound in the center and was in front of the Corvette. Mr. Flores was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck the back of the Kia Soul with the Corvette’s front end. The Kia Soul was forced off the roadway where it struck the wall between the service road and the main lanes. The Kia continued northeast from the wall and its front left struck a small tree as the vehicle came to rest in the grass facing south. The Corvette rotated after impact and came to rest several hundred feet north of impact in the number three lane of travel facing southeast. The front right passenger of the Kia (Daly Sutton) sustained fatal injuries during the collision and was reported as deceased on scene by paramedics. Mrs. Sutton sustained serious bodily injury as a result of this crash and was transported to the Ben Taub General Hospital. After the crash Flores exited the vehicle and walked to a nearby Exxon Station. Wrecker drivers followed him to the location as he entered the restroom for several minutes and then exited. They notified deputies who were then able to take him into custody. Mr. Flores was found to be intoxicated and a blood specimen was obtained pursuant to a search warrant. The results of the blood specimen are pending at this time. This case remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.During the investigation deputies has the northbound feeder closed with several patrol cars. A motorist came across the ramp and around the patrol cars and drove north on the feeder. Several deputies who were involved in the investigation had to get off the feed to avoid being hit. A deputy was able to stop the driver who was taken into custody.
