Tuesday morning Guzman-Lopez who is accused of in the fatal DWI crash that killed a Splendora couple and left their to small children without parents pled guilty. The jury who had been hearing the case immediately went into thearing evidence in the punishment phase. THey saw autopsy photos, heard from Texas Ranger Leitner who was a DPS Sgt. in New Caney when the crash happened May 17, 2015. Also Trooper Sharp who was the first DPS Trooper on the scene. Splendora Officer Maldonado, who was on the scene just after dispatch and took Guzman-Lopez into custody from the citizen who was holding him after he fled the scene also testified. His dash cam showed the entire arrest. The punishment phase comntinues today as jurors hear more evidence. Andrew James and Tyler Dunman are the prosecutors on the case. Guzman-Lopez is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter, two county of accident involving serious bodily injury for the injuries to the children and four counts of failure to stop and render aid. INS also has a hold on Guzman-Lopez who is in this country illegally and at the time of the crash only had a Mexico drivers license.
