On Friday, May 11, 2018, Judge Phil Grant of the 9th District Court of Montgomery County, Texas sentenced Joshua Villagomez, pursuant to his plea agreement, to 45 years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in connection with the murder of Johnny Hodum Jr. on August 6, 2017 in Conroe, Texas. Villagomez, who is 23 years of age, stabbed Hodum Jr. while the two were at a residence in Walnut Cove. Witnesses indicated that Villagomez stabbed Hodum Jr. once, then fled the location on foot. Hodum Jr. was transported to Conroe Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Because Villagomez used a deadly weapon, namely a knife, during the commission of this offense, he will be required to serve one half of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
Donna Berkey (Chief Prosecutor): “Villagomez acted with a total disregard for human life on August 6, 2017. His decision to intentionally take Hodum’s life was senseless and cruel and for that, he will spend a long time locked away in prison. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Johnny Hodum Jr.”
