With caseloads increasing Montgomery County Judges are suggesting at least two additional County Courts at Law. With the county, growth comes additional caseloads, misdemeanor criminal, probate, divorce, juvenile, and monitor wards of the court. Tuesday Montgomery County Commissioners heard from Judge Laird and Judge Gilbert on the court’s needs. It was discussed where additional courts could be held, It was also discussed the cost of another court or even two. The State Legislature is meeting now on a short schedule. If the county were to decide to add a court it must go through the Legislature and be approved. If it is not done this session it would be two more years before it could come up again and the question was if it waited with the growth in the county now what the caseload would be then. The Judges compared Montgomery County with Denton County, Williamson County, Cameron County, and the courts and caseloads they have.
