May 26 :

5 pm update:

Current release at the Lake Livingston Dam remains at 66,000 cfs.

Trinity River Authority officials advise they are monitoring the Lake Level, which is currently 132.76 and do not anticipate having to release additional water this evening.

Current level at Romayor is 35.8

Liberty is at 29.48

Moss Bluff is at 14.53

All three gauge locations will see a slow rise in water due to the increases that occurred at the lake this morning.

Earlier today County Judge Jay Knight filed a Declaration of Local Disaster (copy available on the county website under the emergency management link )

This disaster declaration will be in place for at least seven days in order for county officials to evaluate conditions in the flooded areas and take any necessary steps to maintain the safety of residents and property within the county.

There are NO evacuation orders in place, residents are monitoring conditions and some have evacuated while others with elevated homes have decided to stay. We have not received reports of water in homes.  Roads in most riverfront subdivisions have water over them.

We have received a few calls regarding possible shelters if the water rises too much, and the Red Cross has advised they are conducting needs assessments and have set up an area at the Kenefick Civic Center for residents to receive information and shelter if necessary.

We will be looking into the possibility of opening a shelter in Liberty tomorrow IF that need is identified.

All in all, what a day. Things were really beginning to look better until last nights downpours. Now we start over but we will continue to monitor conditions and update tomorrow morning unless something unexpected occurs overnight that would warrant an overnight update.

We appreciate the response of local citizens and ask that residents monitor their favorite local news source for updates.

If you have an emergency during this event, call 911 for assistance.
