LIBERTY COUNTY HOMICIDE SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

Just before 7 pm Sunday, September 19, 2020, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a home on County Road 3715 in the Rancho Sn Vicente Subdivision off FM 1010 just north of Plum Grove. The call came in from a woman who said she had been assaulted and believed her friend was dead. Units arrived to find a vehicle across the street from the home on fire. The Plum Grove Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched and extinguished the fire. That’s when they found the body of a female inside the vehicle. Inside the home, a woman was found beaten and chained to the bed. She was transported to the hospital by Liberty County EMS. A statewide attempt to locate was issued for Jose Marin Soriano, 59, who lived at the home. Early reports were that the two women worked for him and he called them to meet him at the home claiming to have some personal photographic images of the women. After they arrived he sexually assaulted the woman chained to the bed, The other woman tried to flee. She was the one in the vehicle across the street which was on fire. The wrought iron gate on the fence was plowed down in front of the house. It is unknown if it was done bt her or by Soriano as he fled in a gray or silver Ford pickup. Neighbors reported hearing multiple shots fired and detectives retrieved multiple shell casings from in front of the house. The woman in the vehicle did have a gunshot wound however it is unknown if it or the fire was the cause of death. It is unknown how the vehicle caught fire. The vehicle was pulled out of the woods by Smith Towing and Neal Funeral Home then removed the body and transported it for autopsy. Liberty County Sheriff’s lead Investigator Sean Mitchell has released the attached photo of murder suspect 59-year-old Jose Marin Soriano who has been charged with the murder. On Sunday Jose Marin Soriano, 59, was taken into custody at about noon as authorities said he was trying to cross into the United States at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. He is now being held in San Diego awaiting extradition to Liberty County.
