A 50-year-old Montgomery woman was critically injured in a one-vehicle accident just that shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 45 just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
Witnesses said the driver was northbound on the interstate a little north of League Line Road when she lost control of her 1999 Chevy Cavalier for unknown reasons. The vehicle ran off the road on the inside shoulder, then the driver over corrected, traveling across the interstate and down an embankment where the car partially rolled before coming to rest straddling a drainage ditch.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper William Fredrick happened to be conducting a traffic stop about a half mile north of the crash at the time. Frederick responded immediately and was instrumental in maintaining an airway for the victim until MCHD medics arrived.
Conroe Police, who are investigating the accident, responded along with the Conroe Fire Department.
The Interstate was shut down for over a half hour, while medics stabilized the patient before she was loaded onto a PHI Air Medical helicopter and transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston’s Texas Medical Center.
