LONE STAR-TOMBALL STUDENT KILLED IN GRIMES COUNTY CRASH

Just after 2:30 p.m. 20-year-old Denis Rafael Bautista-Carrasco a Lone Star College student of Tomball was driving southbound on FM 1774 just a few miles south of SH 105 in Plantersville with his friend Oliderio Saolis, 19, of Magnolia.

Behind them was a 2012 Mustang driven by Kandy Wyatt, 40, of Magnolia.

As the approached County Road 351 they were met by a white Dodge pickup truck driven by Paul Miller, 52, of Spring. Miller had slowed down for traffic and was about to turn into his ranch driveway when he was struck from behind by a  Ford F-350 pickup driven by Calvin McKealey, 42, of Waller. McKealey struck Miller with such force that it spun Millers’ truck around and into the oncoming lane striking Bautista-Carrasco head on. Bautista-Carrasco died at the scene. Saolis, his passenger was transported to the hospital and is now listed in stable condition. Both were wearing their seatbelts.

Plantersville Fire Department had to cut the door from the vehicle and raise the dash to free Bautista-Carrasco from the vehicle.

After the impact several cinder blocks that were in the back of the Ford pickup ejected and went airborne. One of those blocks landed in the windshield of Wyatt who was not injured.

Miller was transported in stable condition by Waller County EMS to St. Lukes Hospital in The Woodlands.

Saolis and McKealey were transported to St. Joseph Trauma Center in College Station and are now listed in stable condition.

Although alcohol does not appear to be a factor, McKealey did submit to a mandatory blood draw.
