magnolia fire threatens multiple homes

A grass and woods fire was dispatched to Magnolia Fire Department just after 1:00p.m. Tuesday afternoon in the Magnolia Ridge Subdivision. The subdivision located on the eastern city limits of Magnolia and just south of FM 1488 has many homes recently built or are being built. When firefighters arrived they found heavily a heavily wooded area with heavy fire which was spreading fast due to the high winds. They immediately called for assistance bringing in the Texas Forest Service, the U.S. Forest Service, Tomball Fire Department, Rosehill and Cyfair fire departments.

The Forest Service quickly dispatched a helicopter capable of making water drops and four bulldozers to the scene. In addition Cy-fair Fire Department brought their bulldozer.

It appeared either the fire started along FM 1774 by possibly a discarded cigarette butt or from sparks off the wheels of a passing train. It was difficult to determine as the fire was on both sides of the track and did run up against FM 1774.

At 9:00p.m. fire crews were still mopping up and putting out spot fires. There were just a few trucks remaining compared to the height f the fire when 28 pieces of fire equipment were on the scene.
