A major accident shut down US 59 tonight for almost 2 hours. DPS troopers are still trying to piece together what happened and attempting to identify one of the victims. A little before 10PM a GEO Tracker was southbound on US59 just south of FM2090. A Chevrolet pickup also southbound struck the vehicle in the rear. The driver of the GEO was critically injured and as PHI Air Medical was about to transport him to the Texas Medical Center they lost a pulse. Since CPR cannot be performed in the confines of the helicopter the PHI Medic crew traveled with MCHD Ambulance to Kingwood Hospital. The PHI Air Medical met them there.
Kingwood was able to stabilize the victim at which time PHI transported him in critical condition to Herman Hospital at the Texas Medical Center.
DPS was assisted by Splendora Police Department and Splendora Fire Department.
