Major accident injures children

Two small children were hospitalized following four vehicle pileup in South Montgomery County on Saturday.

The crash occurred around 3 p.m. on the northbound side of I-45 north of Rayford Rd. and south of Woodlands Parkway.

Trooper Daniel Pena, III with the Texas Department of Public Safety said a 2002 Ford F250 pickup was entering the main lanes of the freeway from an entrance ramp and failed to control his speed, striking the rear of a 2004 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, which caused the van to strike a 2008 Volkswagen sedan in front of it and forcing that vehicle into a Hyundai sedan that was in front of the Volkswagen.

Two children, ages 14 months and two years old, were in the backseat of the minivan and were seriously injured. The 14-month-old boy’s skull was fractured, but medics on scene were later notified by doctors there was no internal bleeding and he should recover, Pena said. The airbags deployed in the front of the van and the driver and passenger were uninjured.
