Major Changes in ESD #5 Effective April 1

After several meetings and discussions with the Montgomery County Emergency Services District # 5 Commissioners and the River Plantation Fire Department Board of Directors, we are pleased to announce the following business / professional changes of the Fire Department.

As of April 1, 2012, River Plantation Volunteer Fire Department, Department # 17 will have a new name which will be Central Montgomery County Fire – Rescue. Our plans for these changes are to create better opportunities for the Fire Department employees, volunteers, district and county. This department will become a combination department consisting of more full time employees along with more volunteers. Station 1 will continue to have firefighters on duty (24) hours a day (365) days a year. We look forward to the many other changes we have planned and we would like for everyone else in our county to be a part of our improvements.

As of April 1, 2012, John Farthing will be the Fire Chief for the Central Montgomery County Fire – Rescue Department. Because of better opportunities for our current Fire Chief Randy Oliver, he has decided to step down as the Chief and he has recommended that Assistant Chief John Farthing step in as the Fire Chief for the Central Montgomery County Fire – Rescue. Chief Farthing has the support of the Montgomery County ESD # 5 Commissioners, The Fire Board of Directors, Chief Oliver, and the current firefighters of the department. We will continue to be Department # 17.
