MAN ARRESTED FOR DRUGS WITH CHILD PORN CHARGES PENDING

Police say when a Magnolia man was terminated from his job for drug abuse, he inadvertently exposed another criminal vice that has made unemployment the least of his worries.

On Tuesday, supervisors at a large west county manufacturing company called in 38-year-old William Sexton for a routine performance evaluation. According to police, the supervisors noticed Sexton was impaired and believed he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They asked Sexton, who was an IT Specialist, to provide a urine sample and he allegedly tested posted for methamphetamine. Sexton was immediately terminated and asked to relinquish his company cell phone and laptop.

When the company’s human resources department began to inventory the computer, they discovered around 150 pornographic images of children estimated to be 4 to 6 years old.

The company contacted the office of Precinct 5 Constable David Hill, who launched an investigation and enlisted assistance from the Harris County Precinct 4 Cyber Crimes Division. The two agencies were collaborating and planning to get a search warrant for Sexton’s Decker Prairie residence when the Harris County Cyber Crimes investigators realized they had an active child pornography investigation on the home next door.

A search warrant was secured through Montgomery County and on Friday, members of the two agencies went to Sexton’s residence where they found him outside getting his mail. When deputies patted down Sexton, they say he had a meth pipe and meth in his pocket. Sexton was taken into custody while investigators executed the search warrant on his home.

Investigators removed several computers and approximately 30 hard drives from the residence. The officers then went to the home next door that had been under investigation by the Cyber Crimes Division and they found the resident was an elderly female. She was very upset and had no idea what was happening. Investigators now say Sexton had hacked into his elderly neighbor’s non-secure wireless internet, which caused her IP address to be associated with child pornography. As a courtesy, investigators secured her wireless system before leaving.

Sexton was arrested and is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was on probation for a forgery conviction in Harris County. He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail and investigators say it may be Monday before he is charged in connection with the child pornography so they have an opportunity to first examine the evidence recovered from his residence.

Sexton and his wife of two months live with his mother-in-law.  In the 11900 block of Maureens Way in the Decker Oaks Estates Subdivision.

Constable Hill is requesting that anyone with any knowledge of this case or children that may have been approached to contact the Montgomery County Precinct 5 Constables Office.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

I don’t think I would classify that as “hacked into” considering it was unsecured and basically public wi-fi. However seeing “As a courtesy, investigators secured her wireless system before leaving.” gave me a nice warm feeling. That was extremely nice of the officers/investigators.
I wouldn’t have a problem sharing my wi-fi if I didn’t have to worry about this happening. I’ve got kids, there’s no way I want anything like this remotely associated with my address, in any way.

Shame, sounds like he had a decent job, and he’s a normal enough looking fellow. Meth and kiddie porn, shame. Glad they got him.

Good news for IT people, looks like a job opened up. *chuckle*
