A cow pasture a few miles northeast of Cut & Shoot was the scene of a one-vehicle crash around 9 p.m. Friday night that claimed the life of a man who lived just around the corner.
For unknown reasons, Gary Allen Wech, 46, drove his single-cab Ford pickup through a barbed wire fence on S. Williams Rd. a few hundred feet from the intersection of E. Williams Rd., crossed a large pasture and struck a utility pole.
Montgomery County Hospital District EMS responded and found Wech unresponsive. He went into cardiac arrest and medics transported him to Conroe Regional Medical Center while performing CPR, but they were unable to save him.

The man who leases the pasture for his livestock went to the scene to repair his fence and said he had to do so about half a dozen times in the past year, mainly because of people speeding along E. Williams Rd.
The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene and investigated the wreck, assisted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
