Just after 10:30 pm MCSO and Conroe Police were dispatched to the 2800 block of Interstate 45 to assist Montgomery County Hospital District Medics. MCHD Medic 14 was transporting a 27-year-old male to Conroe Regional Hospital when the male became combative and started fighting with the medics in the back of the ambulance. The unit pulled to the southbound shoulder to attempt to get the male under control. That is when he jumped from the unit into the main lanes of I-45 South. The medics were able to get him off the freeway but as they were putting him back in the ambulance, he broke free again. The male then jumped over the concrete divider and into the northbound main lanes of I-45. He was struck by two vehicles and died at the scene. Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack responded to the scene to perform an inquest. He ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the deceased male to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. I-45 northbound was closed until 1:30am as Conroe Police Investigated the crash. According to Judge Mack, Intoxication or medical issues are believed to have played a role in the poor decision-making and behaviour of the decedent.
