About 630pm Porter Fire Department was dispatched to Summer Hills Drive and Butterfly for a man trapped in a tree. When they arrived on the scene they found a 42 year-old tree trimmer hanging upside down about twenty feet off the ground. A large tree limb which had been cut had leg pinned between it and the fork of the tree close to amputation. A co-worker and neighbor were trying to take the weight off of him.
Porter Fire Fighters immediately went to work to free the man who was losing an excess amount of blood. After about 30 minutes they were able to free the man, however he lost the lower part of his right leg.
He was transported to Hermann Hospital in critical condition.
Firefighters continued to work on the scene almost forty five minutes to free the remaining leg, and cut tree limbs so they would not fall on the home.
A neighbor said he had come home and heard a tree limb snap and then a man scream. He immediately ran to the scene and propped part of a ladder against the tree trying to support the man in the tree. He and a co-worker of the tree trimmer kept in that position until the Fire Department arrived.
