Liberty County investigators were on the scene Sunday off FM 2830 and Highway 90. Liberty County sheriff’s deputies say 56-year-old Larry Hardy was involved in an ongoing dispute that got extra heated Sunday afternoon. Deputies say that’s when Hardy was shot.
Just after Larry Hardy got home from church a little after noon he went to check on his land which he planned to start building on. He had surveyors due out Monday.
The owner of the land next door sixty-year-old Willey Stewart apparently came across his land and confronted Hardy near his truck and shot him.
His step-brother Tracy Broomfield said the dispute has been going on about six weeks even though the land had been in the family nearly twenty and they were paying taxes on it.
he told us that Stewart was trying to call it his homestead and that is what the ongoing dispute was over.
Detectives remained on the scene as fire trucks blocked the road until after 10pm.
