mchd reduces tax rate

For the tenth consecutive year, the Montgomery County Hospital

District’s Board of Directors voted to lower the entity’s tax rate.

Last fiscal year (2011-2012), MCHD’s tax rate was .0745 cents per $100 valuation, and at Tuesday night’s board meeting, it was unanimously decided to lower the rate for the 2012-2013 year to .0729 cents.

“This is a win-win for Montgomery County,” said Brett Allen, MCHD’s Chief Financial Officer. “Although we are lowering our rate, our tax revenue will increase a bit, thanks to the increase of property owners in the County. This allows us to keep pace with the county’s growing needs. As an added bonus, we maintain the honor of being the lowest taxing entity in the County.”

Other action taken at the meeting included approval of the District’s 2012-2013 fiscal year budget. All MCHD board meetings are open to the public, and audio of the meetings are available at the District’s website at www.mchd-tx.org.

The Montgomery County Hospital District’s mission is to care for the indigent and provide EMS services while protecting the interest of taxpayers and insuring long-term stability through fund development. The District’s vision is to operate a cost-effective indigent care and taxpayer-supplemented EMS with total professionalism administered through an elected board of directors.
