“MEN IN BLACK” TAKE DOWN MURDER SUSPECT

Friday evening Precinct 4 Constable Rowdy Hayden’s “Men In Black” responded to the 23700 block of Mayer Road in Porter due to a report of a wanted murder suspect from Harris County hiding out. After surrounding the home a knock on the door was met with Shayne Wayne Hawley, 27, attempting to crawl out a back window onto a table he had set earlier to facilitate an escape if needed. What he didn’t plan on was a Precinct 4 Deputy standing at that back window. Hawley was taken into custody. On November 3, 2015, 47-year-old Juan Manuel Cano was working at a construction site for the future SH 99. He was in the 9100 block of the Grand Parkway near Tomball filling heavy equipment with fuel on the yet to open highway. A Ford Mustang entered the highway and struck and killed Cano. The vehicle then became stuck in the mud. The driver of the Mustang and a male and a female passenger then stole not just Cano’s 2014 Peterbilt Fuel truck, but also his cell phone and billfold. Harris County Detectives processed the scene including several cigarette butts found on the location. On March 13, 2017, a report was generated from the Texas DPS Combined DNA Index System. That report showed both Cano and Hawley’s DNA. On April 19, 2017, another match was made to Chrissie Owen’s who was with Hawley at the time of the incident. Detectives interviewed Owens who stated her boyfriend Josue Leal and her cousin Shayne Hawley entered the highway and the two males discussed murdering Cano who they had planned to ask for help. Cano, assisted the two males with some fuel and then a jump start. That was when Leal began punching Cano and dragged him to the ground continuing the assault. Owens then stated the pair went through Cano’ pockets and stealing a wallet with $22 and a cell phone. Cano started convulsing. After being told to get in the driver’s seat, Leal and Hawley told her to “Go”. She stated she accidentally ran over Hawley when she thought the vehicle was in reverse but was actually in drive. She did admit to smoking Marlboro Reds and Cush at the scene with “Hawley and Leal. A warrant was issued for Hawley and he was arrested June 14, 2017. His bond was set at $100,000 by the 232nd District Court in Harris County. On August 15, 2017, the bond was reduced to $50,000 by the 232nd District Court in Harris County. On October 22, 2017, Hawley posted a $50,000 bond and was released from the Harris County Jail. He was to appear in court on September 16, 2019. He failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Hawley has been arrested several times before. In February 2011 he was arrested in Harris County for theft and again another theft charge in Harris County in February 2012. In April 2012 he was arrested in Kerr County for Indecency with a child/sexual contact. In February 2013 he was arrested for injury to a child and then a violation for a promise to appear. Also in February 2013 possession of drug paraphernalia also in Kerr County. In July of 2015, he was arrested in Harris County for assault on a family member. He posted a 10,000 bond but failed to appear in court. On July 17, 2019 he assaulted his girlfriend and holding her in the vehicle while running red traffic lights in the City of Houston. He also punched her several times. A warrant was then issued for Hawley who was then out on bond on the Murder Charge. He is now been booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
