Money Laundering Bust on Hwy 59

On Friday at approximately 12pm, the San Jacinto County Patrol Tactical Unit was operating on US 59. After assisting the Texas DPS with an overturned 18-wheeler on US59 Southbound near Sherwood Road, the unit went back to work observing traffic on the South bound side of US 59.

Deputy Chris Simmons observed a 2009 Chevrolet Impala driving southbound and committing traffic violations. Deputy Simmons stopped the vehicle near Regency and US 59 Southbound. During an interview with the violator, he gave Deputy Simmons consent to search the vehicle. Deputy C.J Duenas stopped to assist. During the search a large sum of cash was located. Additionally, residual marijuana was located throughout the interior of the vehicle in the carpeted floorboard. The driver was detained and, along with the vehicle, transported to the Sheriff’s Office in Coldspring. Upon arrival at the Sheriff’s Impound Lot, a Texas DPS K-9 unit assisted by using his canine partner to check the vehicle for additional contraband. Additional cash was located by the dog, secreted under the vehicles center console.

A total of $23,905 in cash was seized in addition to the vehicle. The driver was charged with Money Laundering and placed into the San Jacinto County Jail.
