MONTGOMERY COUNTY ENACTS BURN BAN

Effective immediately the Montgomery County Commissioners on the advice of Montgomery County Fire Marshal Jimmy Williams have enacted a burn ban that takes effect immediately. THis means the only burning allowed is commercial pit burns using blowers and permitted by TCEQ. Currently, the drought index is just shy of where t was on Labor Day 2011 when the Magnolia Wild Fires broke out. Jimmy Williams said last weekend firefighters ran over 15 grass and woods fires. Residents are asked to police themselves. If a neighbor is burning let them know a burn ban is in effect before calling the fire department. Many do not realize it and saving a fire crew from responding can keep that equipment free for a much-needed emergency. The ban is in effect for 90 days but could be canceled prior to that if drought conditions are lessened.
