Just after midnight, Saturday Montgomery County Precinct 5 Constable Captian Billy Masden was on SH 249 closing lanes down as construction crews were hanging bridge beams for the new SH 249. Masden had all the emergency lights going and was sitting in his vehicle when the driver of a white pickup slammed into the right rear of the patrol car pushing it close to 100-feet. The driver along with a female occupant continued on slamming into a construction area arrow board and then the pickup which was pulling that arrow board. The driver finally came to rest in the ditch of the new construction area. DPS responded to the scene and it was determined the driver of the truck was impaired. Masden suffered minor injuries. The impaired driver and his female companion were not injured. For close to an hour as the investigation was on-going on the right lane was open. Motorists in that right lane almost ignored emergency lights as only a handful slowed below the speed limit. The area where the crash happened is in a construction area but yet TxDOT still has the speed limit set at 55 mph. Just down from the crash site the speed limit is 45.
