MONTGOMERY COUNTY SHOP WITH A COP PUTS SMILES OF MANY CHILDRENS FACES

Tuesday night the Montgomery County Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 90 members met with thirty children of Veterans at the Walmart in Montgomery. This is the eighth year the organization has raised funds for the “Shop with a Cop” event. Kathie Smith with Montgomery County Veterans Services gathered information from several organizations in the county who had Veterans with children in need. She then contacted Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Albritton who is part of the organization. Deputy Albriton said the group held fund raisers throughout the year to raise funds for the event. Each child could spend up to $100 for whatever they wanted. A deputy was assigned as their personal Elf and shopped with them. As they shopped the parents were able to sit and talk with other Veterans at the McDonald’s inside Walmart. Several children selected bicycles, others Lego’s which were popular. One child was dead set on a hover board, the cost, $148. The child had the biggest smile on his face when his personal Elf Deputy put in $48 of his own money so purchase it. Several children diverted from the toys and ended up wanting water and food items. They had lost most everything in Harvey.
