Just after 6 pm Montgomery Police along with Montgomery Fire Department and MCHD were dispatched to FM 149 south of SH 105 and just inside the Montgomery city limits for a major accident.
Montgomery Police were first on the scene and requested medical immediately for a female that was ejected from her SUV and was in traumatic arrest with CPR in progress.
Fire and Ems arrived shortly after and continued CPR for some time trying to bring the driver back. They then transported her to Conroe Regional Medical where she was pronounced dead.
FM 149 was closed in both directions for almost two hours as DPS assisted Montgomery Police investigate the scene.
According to Montgomery Police Chief Kenneth Hudgens, Jennifer Proveaux, age 28 from Conroe was southbound on FM 149. She has been a mail carrier in Montgomery for over a year. She was turning left into a private drive to deliver a piece of mail that she had missed on regular delivery just moments before.
Valdemar Salazar, age 44 of Baytown was driving his company pickup truck southbound. He told officials that Proveaux slammed on her brakes. Trying to avoid a collision he swerved to the left into the oncoming traffic. At this point, Proveaux had already started to turn into the driveway at 13502 FM 149. Salazar struck her Honda SUV in the left side flipping it and ejecting Proveaux..
District Attorney Bret Ligon was also on the scene to determine if any criminal event had taken place. The investigation is continuing.
Even though some mail was scattered about the scene the Montgomery Postmaster was called to the scene to retrieve the mail., No mail was destroyed in the accident. It was also noted that Proveaux was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
