Just after 10 p.m. Thursday a Grimes County Deputy on routine patrol on SH 105 just east of Navasota observed a 2006 blue Yamaha motorcycle traveling eastbound on 105 cutting vehicles off and dangerously changing lanes. The deputy was able to clock his speed at 96mph. The deputy activated his emergency lights and attempted to stop the motorcycle. The driver sped up to over 130 mph to a point the deputy wasn’t able to safely stay behind him. A Grimes County in the Plantersville area blocked the intersection of SH 105 at FM 1774. His main purpose was to keep cross traffic on SH 105 from entering as the motorcycle was heading their way. The biker never slowed for the lights as he approached and continued eastbound.
Montgomery County units were alerted as the chase closed in on Montgomery County.
Montgomery County and Montgomery PD units attempted to locate the bike unsuccessfully. Several Grimes and DPS units came through Magnolia but found nothing. It was at that point a Grimes County Sheriff’s Office Captain called the chase off.
Moments later MCHD received a call for a motorcycle crash on Old Highway 105 at FM 1486. A Montgomery unit was first to arrive on the scene and told dispatchers it looked bad. Montgomery Fire Department, who has a station within a mile arrived on the scene. It was determined the victim was dead. Grimes County deputies confirmed it was the same bike they were chasing.
Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace , Wayne Mack ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the 23-year-old Houston male to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
A name will be released later.
Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon also responded to the scene due to the nature of the death. He determined the driver turned off 105 onto FM 1486 and losing the deputy’s and then crashed was not on the shoulders of any deputy.
A small amount of drugs were recovered from the driver.
