Around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sgt. R. Warwick with the Pct. 4 Constable’s Office responded to a major accident at 23214 FM 1485 in New Caney. He contacted Deputy E. Rivera, who then responded to the location where he found a white single cab Chevy Pickup with severe frontend damage, having rear-ended a white extended cab Ford F150 pickup. The impact caused the Ford pickup to rear-end a Toyota 4 Runner, which in turn rear-ended a green Chevy van. All four vehicles were westbound on FM 1485 when the Chevy van stopped and activated the vehicle’s left turn signal, awaiting a safe turn into the parking lot of The New Caney Family Worship Center Church.
The driver of the Chevy pickup that began the domino effect pileup was 46-year-old Jerry Wayne Brasher.
Deputy Rivera smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Brasher’s breath and multiple other indicators of intoxication. Brasher, who has two previous Driving While Intoxicated convictions, admitted consuming multiple alcoholic beverages.
Brasher failed the standard field sobriety test and was arrested.
One driver and one passenger were transported by ground ambulance with severe neck, back and leg injuries. Another driver was transported by ground ambulance with severe neck and shoulder pain.
Brasher is charged with three counts of Intoxicated Assault With a Vehicle, which is a third-degree felony.
