Monday morning just before 2 a.m. a call came into Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on a suspicious vehicle at a New Caney Church. As units were en-route dispatchers put out an attempt to locate on a white pick-up truck. Within minutes DPS Trooper Mike Martin who was parked at I-69 and FM 1485 spotted the truck matching the description stop at the traffic light. Martin stopped the truck and identified the driver as Howard Keith Windham, 33, of New Caney.
In the back of the truck was a almost new air conditioning unit that had fresh cut marks on the copper and a set of wire cutters.
Martin notified deputies who responded to his location as others contacted the pastor of the New Caney Church of Christ. The pastor checked the location and confirmed an air conditioning unit had been cut away from the outside of the church located in the 14000 block of FM 1485.
Windham was placed in custody and will be charged with felony theft.
Back on November 10, 2012 two suspicious males on bicycles were spotted at the same church in the wee hours of the morning. Once again quick action by The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office put Richard Allen Blake, 33, of 21374 Cherry in New Caney in custody.
As deputies started checking the property they found an air conditioner on the east side of the building with the electrical disconnect ripped off the wall. On the west side of the building heavy copper power cables were cut away from the building which were powering additional air conditioning units. The copper Freon line was cut on one of the units allowing Freon to escape.
In that incident Blake was charged with Theft of Material/Aluminum/Copper/Brass less than $20,000, Criminal Mischief damage/destruction to school or place of worship which are both felony charges. In addition he has a misdemeanor charge of Evading Arrest/Detention. It was not his first arrest in Montgomery County.
Like Blake, Windham has been arrested multiple times in Montgomery County. On June 28, 2013 he was arrested by Montgomery County Precinct 4 Deputies for theft of property.
