NEW POWER PLANT BEING BUILT IN WILLIS

Local and State Officials joined Entergy Friday morning in the groundbreaking of the new Montgomery County Power Plant on Lewis Creek on Long Street in Willis. The plant which will open in May of 2021 will cost $937 million to build. It will be natural gas-fired and serve, The construction alone is estimated to provide $1 billion in economic activity across the state. It will also provide close to 750 construction-related jobs. The new plant will help power close to 640,000 homes. Entergy says customers should see the savings in fuel costs on their bills once it is complete. The plant is located next to the current Lewis Creek Power Plant which is close to 40-years-old. Once the new plant comes online, the old plant will be used during peak periods in the heat of the summer.
